Stephen Beeler14 Red, 12 Red Assistant, and Club Co-Director

Steve just finished his fifth season as the head volleyball coach at Terre Haute South.  In his first five seasons there he has guided the program to over 100 wins and two sectional championships.  He, with Brian Payne,  is a co-founder of the club and the 14 Red coach.  Steve was brought into volleyball coaching through the boys program at Terre Haute South that started in 1997. His job as a 14's coach is to develop players for a higher level of play while taking into account the individual abilities of the players. He has coached club for eleven years and has produced one two time AAU All-American. 

Jim Bertoli - Setter Academy and Specialty Sessions

Bertoli is a graduate of Ball State University. He enjoyed part-time coaching positions at Bishop Chatard High School, Grand Valley State College and Zone Six Volleyball Club before becoming head coach of men's volleyball at Dartmouth College in 1991 and followed his stint there with positions as head coach of women's volleyball at the University of New Orleans (1991-1995) and Montana State University (1995-1997) before ending his collegiate coaching career at Indiana State University (1997-2003). During his years in the coaching profession, his collegiate programs received numerous awards and recognition from Athletic Management Magazine , The NCAA News, Volleyball Magazine and Coaching Volleyball Magazine. Bertoli was the master of ceremonies for the 2002 American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American Banquet and has been a featured speaker at numerous events including the Indiana State University Recreation & Sport Management Symposium, Leadership Wabash Valley and the American Volleyball Coaches Association conventions. Bertoli served on the American Volleyball Coaches Association Board of Directors from 2001 to 2003. He has been published twice with, Skills & Drills for Volleyball and Marketing & Promotions for Volleyball. Bertoli current sits on the board of directors for Crossroads of America Volleyball Club. He resides in Riley, Indiana with his wife, Pam and their three boys, Anthony, Ben & Jackson.

Corey Frink - 14 White, 13 Red Assistant

Corey graduated from Sullivan H.S. in 2000 and grew up playing volleyball in the sand since he was 12. He played for the Rose-Hulman Men's team for 3 years, has been the assistant on a number of teams, and was the J.V. coach at Terre Haute South the past two seasons with a combined record of 40-3.

Lauren Gottardi - 12 Black

Samantha Gregory  - 16 White

Samantha is a Sophomore at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. She grew up in Huntsville, AL and has been playing volleyball since the sixth grade. Samantha attended Catholic High School where she played varsity volleyball for all four years. She earned her varsity letter and four pins while playing for Catholic High, where she was the captain her junior and senior years. Samantha was named a member of the 2006-2007 State 2nd team and was awarded all metro her senior year and all area her sophomore, junior, and senior years. She has played club volleyball for three years, two of which were on the power/travel teams for North Alabama Spiker’s Association. Samantha has completed her second college volleyball season as the libero for Rose-Hulman under the coaching of Brenda Goble.

Madison Hayne - 13 Red, 14 White Assistant

Madison has been a life long resident of Terre Haute, Indiana and graduated in 2005 from Terre Haute South. While at South, Madison earned three varsity letters in volleyball and two in basketball. She then attended Indiana State University and was a member of the Lady Sycamores Volleyball team. In the fall of 2006, Madison transferred to Oakland City University to continue her volleyball career. She had a record breaking season at OCU. The Lady Oaks placed 6th at the NCCAA National Tournament. Madison finished her playing career by being named the Mideast Player of the Year and 2nd team All-American.  Currently Madison is attending Indiana State and is the varsity assistant coach at Terre Haute South.

Kristen Hunt - 16 Blue

Kristin is from Reno, Nevada where she started playing volleyball nine years ago.  She played for Sierra Nevada Volleyball Club out of Reno for four years and Capitol City Volleyball Club out of Carson City, Nevada for one year.  Kristin received High Desert League First All League Team at Robert McQueen High school her varsity seasons.  She played for the Northern California Volleyball Association out of Sacramento, California her junior and senior years of high school as well. Kristin is a junior player and student at Indiana State University where she has earned her degree in Psychology and working on her Marketing minor, she is also a two year lettered Right Side/ Middle Blocker. This is Kristin’s first year coaching women and has coached one men’s team.

Amanda Jevons - 16 White

Amanda Jevons is a sophomore at Rose-Hulman and is originally from Las Vegas, NV. She attended Rancho High School Medical Academy and has been playing volleyball since 9th grade and played varsity volleyball for 3 years. Her junior and senior year she was named varsity captain and received First- team all conference honors as well as MVP all region. While in high school she earned her varsity letter and for varsity pins. She went on to play club volleyball for Club Vegas for three years on the 16-1 and 18-1’s teams as an outside hitter and middle blocker. Currently, she is a sophomore at Rose-Hulman playing varsity volleyball for Coach Goble as a fighting engineer.

Kristen Kerscher - 14 White

Kristen is from Toledo, Ohio and has been playing volleyball since 5th grade.  She graduated from Notre Dame Academy in 2006.  While in high school, Kristen was a four year letter winner and also earned First Team-All City and First Team-All District honors after her junior and senior campaigns.  She also set school records in blocks and kills.  Kristen was also a City-League All-Academic selection.  She competed played for Toledo Volleyball Club.  Kristen recently finished her junior season at Indiana State University where she has lettered all three years as a Right Side hitter.  Kristen is majoring in Pre-Business Marketing/Administration. 

Emily Kennedy - 12 Red Assistant

Emily has been playing volleyball in Terre Haute for the past 10 years.
As a city resident her whole life, she has played volleyball for local middle and high school teams, adult recreation teams, as well as winter competition leagues. Since graduating from Indiana State in May of 2006, she has coached in the COA Elementary League, assisted with Honey Creek Middle School Volleyball, and is looking forward to this upcoming season with COA.

Lindsay Kennedy - 16 Red Assistant

Patty Mauer- 12 Red

Patty has been involved with volleyball since graduating college. She started coaching at North Decatur High School and played on mixed league volleyball teams year round out of high school. After moving to Terre Haute twelve years ago, she started the volleyball program for middle school students at St. Patrick. She continued in the role of volunteer coach for four years before moving to Terre Haute North as the JV coach.  Along with this experience, she has worked under Steve Beeler and Crystal Graham as an assistant coach for the 14 Red and 18 Red.  Currently she has transitioned back to coach middle school at St. Patrick and enjoys working with kids at this age.

Sarah Messmer – 17 White

Sarah is from Cincinnati, Ohio where she graduated from Archbishop McNicholas High School in 2005 after earning two varsity letters and the title Most Improved Player her senior year.  She started playing club volleyball when she was in grade school for Eastern Hills Volleyball Club.  Sarah then played for Northern Kentucky Junior Volleyball throughout her high school career.  She will graduate in May from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology with a Chemical Engineering Degree and a Biochemistry and Molecular Biology minor.  Sarah just finished her fourth year playing with the Engineers under Brenda Goble and is looking forward to coaching for COA for the first time this year.  

Brian Payne - 16 Red and Club Co-Director

Brian is the former head coach at Terre Haute South. While there, he led the team to three sectional titles and over 200 wins. He began playing volleyball competitively in 1987 while in high school. He has competed in the White River Park State Games and at the Boys' USVBA Nationals as a junior player. He then went on to be a part of the IPFW Men's Collegiate program for two years. He eventually finished his degree from Indiana State University. Along the way, he has been coaching club since 1991, when the local club was 'WVVC' under the direction of then ISU coach Rhonda Woodward. Along with Steve Beeler, they started what is today COA, and hope for success stories for the teams and individuals in future years.

Leah Pelzel - 16 Black

Leah Pelzel is a freshman at Rose-Hulman and is originally from Loveland, OH. She attended Mount Notre Dame High School has been playing volleyball since 3rd grade. She won the Division 1 State Championship in Ohio her junior year and was runner-up her senior year. She played club volleyball for Team Z and also Dayton Juniors. Leah has been an outside hitter for most of her career but has also played defense and this year started setting for the Fighting Engineers. She just completed her first year playing varsity volleyball for Coach Goble as a fighting engineer. She was named to the HCAC All-Freshman Team.

Alisha Polite - 12 White and 18 Red Assistant

Alisha is from Valparaiso, Indiana where she graduated high school in 2005 from Washington Township High School. While in high school, Alisha was a four year letter winner in volleyball and three year letter winner in basketball. She is currently a senior at Indiana State University majoring in Physical Education. She was a member of the Lady Sycamore volleyball team all four years of college. Alisha played 11 years of club volleyball for Dunes Volleyball Club, in Northern Indiana. This is Alisha’s second year here with COA Volleyball and she is excited to start up another year.

John Smith - 18 Red

Jon (Jonathan) Smith begins his first season at Indiana State University as an assistant coach on head coach Traci Dahl’s staff this season. Smith joined the program on August 4, 2008.  Smith is a 2007 graduate of Eastern Illinois with a Bachelor’s in General Studies. He was the coach of the Top Spin Volleyball Club in Flora, Ill., for the past two years and the assistant varsity coach and head coach of the junior varsity at Altamont High School (Altamont, Ill.) for the past three years.  Smith has also served as a volunteer coach at Altamont Lutheran Inter-Parish School in Altamont, Ill., was the coach of the Crossroads Volleyball Club in Effingham, Ill., and the head volleyball coach at Dieterich High School in Diterich, Ill., for three years.  Smith is on the board of directors of the Altamont Softball Association, a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association, and a minister with the Community of Christ Church in Effingham, Ill.
 

Brandi Sturgill - 17 White

Brandi is originally from Boone, NC and graduated from Watauga High School in 2005 where she played volleyball, three years at the varsity level.  Her senior year she was named All-Conference Volleyball Player of the Year and was selected as the top female athlete at her school.  She will graduate in May from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology with a Chemical Engineering degree and an Environmental Engineering minor.  Brandi played 6 years of club volleyball in North Carolina with the Appalachian Avalanche and just finished her senior year under Coach Brenda Goble at Rose-Hulman where as a junior she was selected as MVP by her teammates.  Brandi enjoyed working with the club last season as a assistant coach for 17 White and is very excited to work with COA again this year.

Katie Tharp - 16 Blue

Katie is from Linton, IN and has been playing volleyball since she was 8 years old. She graduated from Linton-Stockton High School where she played four years of varsity volleyball. She received All-Conference honors her junior and senior years, and she was also named the Top Female Athlete her senior year. She is currently a senior at Rose-Hulman where she is pursuing a Chemical Engineering degree. Katie just finished her fourth year under Brenda Goble at Rose-Hulman and is very excited to use her knowledge to help younger players grow and develop.
